For most of us this will not be so, we will live, we will die, and we will soon be forgotten, and all that we ever said, all that we ever did, and all that we ever were will die with us.

The file on our lives will be closed. The characters and events featured in this book have made their mark on history, for better or worse. They do and will live on in legend, in myth, and in reality. This is the updated and revised 2nd Edition of War, Volume Two of the compendium work Prisoners of Eternity.War it is said is the great engine of change, it is also the cause of great hardship, carnage, and death on an industrial scale. This Volume covers many different aspects of war, it is not just about the great clash of arms but also about its politics, the philosophy that underpins it, and its aftermath.

So if you are interested in the Spanish Armada, Dunkirk, Nazi Murder Squads, the effects of Poison Gas, The Holocaust, Custers Last Stand and many more, then this might be the book for you. This book, however, is not a forensic examination of its subject, I provide no sources, neither do I make any pretence to it being an academic work. It is a popular history, and one where I mererly paint the picture and tell the story. There are more detailed accounts of the subjects I discuss available elsewhere. If this book encourages the reader to probe further then all well and good but I make no claim to this being a definitive work.

It is a short-cut to events.History is not a science, it is open to constant revision and reinterpretation, and is therefore in a permanent state of flux. In history evidence does not serve as proof.Unlike the millions who have gone before and the millions yet to come the events and characters of which I write did not pass through time, they were captured in time and for all time.

They truly are the prisoners of eternity.
